A frontier without an ecosystem is not stable.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the future of the firm in an AI-driven economy.

This transition is different than any previous platform shift. In the past, we used digital systems to enhance human productivity. Now, we are using AI to reason and act on our behalf.

Future of the firm in the AI economy:

  1. The Ecosystem Constraint: A frontier without an ecosystem is not stable. The value of a platform is proportional to the innovation happening on top of it, not just the raw capability of the model.

  2. From Tools to Agents: We are moving from a paradigm where humans use digital tools to one where AI reasons across contexts and acts autonomously.

  3. Fundamental Difference: Unlike previous shifts (Mobile, Cloud), this transition isn't just about accessibility or scaling—it's about the nature of intelligence as a production factor.

  4. Integration at the Stack level: Success in this era requires deep integration across silicon, systems, and software.
